Pedals & Cleats
Bike pedals provide the connection point between the “engine” of a bike, the rider’s legs, and the transmission of the bike, the crank. Selecting a platform pedal, toe-clip pedal or clipless pedal is a matter of personal preference and riding style. BMX and downhill mountain bikers typically use platform pedals while most road and cross country mountain bikers prefer clipless or toe-clip pedals. Clipless pedals require biking shoes with a cleat mounting plate in Shimano SPD or Shimano SPD-SL. All other clipless pedal manufactures will mount to either of these two standards.
